If you have multiple applications open in the
tile-based interface and on the Desktop, you will want to explore a
feature in Windows 8 called snapping. Snapping is a convenient way to
switch applications and view content in one application while working in
another. Here’s how it works.

The Desktop snapped into a Switch list
When the Desktop is snapped right or left,
Windows creates a Switch list from open Desktop windows, providing an
excellent graphical way to switch Desktop applications.
To snap with your mouse
• Tap or click the top edge of the app and drag it to the left or right side of your screen .

• Tap and hold, or
right-click, the app in the Switch list, and select the Snap Left or
Snap Right command from the context menu .

To resize or close a snapped application
• To resize the snapped application, tap and drag (or click and drag) the slider.
• To close the app, tap and drag (or click and drag) the slider to one edge.
Tip
Press +.
(period) to move a snapped app through the following cycle: snap left,
three-quarter screen left, full screen, and snap right.
